The Boston Red Sox acquired All-Star starting pitcher Garrett Crochet as their marquee trade move this offseason. The left-hander had an excellent season for the Chicago White Sox last year even though they had to endure the worst campaign in franchise history.
Garrett Crochet candidly explained that he wanted to join the Boston Red Sox even while he was tenured to the Chicago White Sox. Crochet revealed that he understood that the White Sox would trade him at some point.
Therefore, he had discussed with his wife Rachel that Fenway Park would be the ideal destination for him and that he's grateful to have succeeded with those aspirations.
On Saturday, Crochet told Red Sox announcer Tom Caron for NESN at Fenway Park about his trade move from the White Sox this winter.
"Going back to last trade deadline, it was something that I was kind of expecting; the writing was on the wall, so to speak," he said. "I remember, right when the off-season hit, me and my wife were having a conversation about teams that could possibly be in the mix. The one that jumped out to me was the Red Sox, and it was something that we were hoping for.
"The idea of coming to Boston, to a young team that's up and coming, and the city of Boston itself would be a great place to live," he added. "So, it was number one on our list, and we're just glad it worked out."
Crochet registered the best season of his fairly short career after he was converted from a reliever to a starting role last year. He pitched 146 innings over 32 starts and produced 209 strikeouts along with a 3.58 ERA.
"It's great to lay the groundwork": Garrett Crochet on meeting his new teammates
Garrett Crochet was at Fenway Park this weekend as the Boston Red Sox players gathered at their home stadium for the first team gathering of the season. Crochet discussed his experience of meeting up with his new teammates.
"It's great to lay the groundwork," he said. "A couple of guys, obviously, I played with over at Chicago in [Lucas] Giolito, and Romy [Gonzalez], and Liam [Hendriks] as well. So, it's been nice to kind of rekindle those friendships and make some new ones as well."
The Red Sox finished with an 81-81 record last year and missed out on the postseason after taking third place in the American League East.
