Fans react to Mets potential lineup ft. Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor after Dominican superstar signs $765,000,000 deal

Juan Soto and the New York Mets set the new benchmark in baseball contracts after the club reportedly agreed to a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million deal with the Dominican outfielder on Sunday. The previous best was Shohei Ohtani's 10-year, $700 million deal with the LA Dodgers last offseason.

The deal is expected to lift the Mets to the top of the NL food chain alongside the Dodgers for seasons to come. While the Dodgers boast the incredible MVP trio of Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, the Mets have replied with boasting a top lineup consisting Soto and 2024 NL MVP finalist Francisco Lindor.

MLB on Fox shared their potential Mets lineup, which is as follows:

  1. Francisco Lindor - SS
  2. Juan Soto - RF
  3. Mark Vientos - 1B
  4. Brandon Nimmo - LF
  5. Starling Marte - DH
  6. Francisco Alvarez - C
  7. Jeff McNeil - 2B
  8. Jose Siri - CF
  9. Brett Baty - 3B

Reacting to the post, fans were unimpressed with the lineup when comparing with the Dodgers.

Juan Soto's $700 million+ contract details

There was no doubt Juan Soto would sign a contract in the vicinity of Shohei Ohtani's $700 million contract last year. However, Steve Cohen's pockets were deep enough for the Mets to land him on a blockbuster $765 million deal.

Unlike Ohtani's contract, Soto's contract will not be deferred. The contract includes a $75 million signing bonus. Moreover, as the free agent reportedly asked for, the contract also includes an opt-out after the fifth season (2029).

Juan Soto's contract will also help other top free agents such as Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso, who will now be chased by franchises who missed out on landing Soto.
