Nestor Cortes Jr. has been a proud New York Yankee since getting drafted by the club in 2013. It's natural for players to support their team, especially when they are called out for being in crunch situations.
The talented pitcher recently took to social media, saying everyone talks down on the New York Yankees, adding that the team is always in contention and that it is a privilege to be able to wear the iconic pinstripes jersey.
Cortes said on X/Twitter:
Many fans shared their reactions and thoughts to Cortes' tweet, with many not holding back with their comments.
Here's a look at some of the fan reactions on X:
"Stop ripping lines and wishing you were at the All-Star game,” wrote one fan.
"Coping hard tonight, eh? Team hasn’t been to the World Series since 2009, relax," another fan wrote.
"The Yankees are the Cowboys of the MLB. Great regular season every year, ton of hype driven from the media & an early playoff exit. Rinse, repeat," one fan chimed in.
Comments continued to pour in as some fans lashed out at Cortes:
"In contention for what? The second Wild Card?" one fan asked.
"Participation trophies for everyone Eh? Because it used to be the the most important thing next to breathing was winning. Its not any more under Hal & Cashman. Its been since 09. Yankees dont deserve a benefit of doubt. Just doubt until they win a World Series," one fan wrote.
"While true, this doesn’t excuse the team’s recent performance," another fan chipped in.
Nestor Cortes Jr. to pitch against Tampa Bay Rays after All-Star break
The Cuban-American pitcher will go on the bump after the All-Star break as the Yankees take on the Tampa Bay Rays. Cortes will likely pitch in the second game, while Gerrit Cole is expected to take the mound in the opening game of the four-game series at Yankee Stadium, beginning on Friday.
Cortes had a shaky start to this season and can only hope for a better second half. He has a 4-8 record with a 3.67 ERA so far this season, and while he had a few rough outings, the offense has also failed to back him up on several occasions.
Despite the offensive prowess of the likes of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, the Bronx Bombers (58-40) find themselves two games behind the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles (58-38).
