There is no denying the talent of Detroit Tigers superstar Tarik Skubal. The heavy favorite to win the American League Cy Young Award continued his momentum in the postseason. During the Tigers' first playoff game in 10 years, Skubal continuned to prove why he is arguably the best pitcher in MLB.
While deciding which pitcher is the best is often subjective, it's tough to make an argument against Tarik Skubal. This is something that MLB insider Ben Verlander reiterated on social media, making sure to remind baseball fans of Skubal's talent and just how dominant he is.
"He is a bad bad man," Verlander posted on social media, while also praising him as the best pitcher in the MLB.
While this may be a reaction to the moment, Ben Verlander is the brother of future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander, so he has a pretty close relationship to pitching greatness.
Despite being the underdogs heading into Game 1 of the American League Wild Card round, Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers took an early lead over the Houston Astros.
"Just your friendly reminder that Tarik Skubal is the best pitcher in Major League Baseball," Verlander posted online.
While there is still plenty of baseball remaining in the Wild Card round, the Detroit Tigers ace is proving to the postseason audience why he is widely considered the favorite to win his first ever AL Cy Young Award.
Tarik Skubal earned the American League Triple Crown this season
Although there were a number of superstar performances in the AL this season, no one could touch Skubal, who managed to remain simply unstoppable all year long. Corbin Burnes of the Baltimore Orioles, Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians and Logan Gilbert of the Seattle Mariners have all been considered in the race for the AL Cy Young.
That being said, with Skubal earning the pitching triple crown, it appears that the award is locked up at this point. Skubal finished the 2024 campaign as the American League leader in wins (18), ERA (2.39) and strikeouts (228). He was simply unstoppable and deserves all the accolades that will likely come his way duinrg award season.
