Los Angeles Angels star Taylor Ward came up with the heartbreaking blow to end the no-hitter bid from Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis when the two teams met at Rogers Center on Saturday night. Bowden had carried the no-hitter bid through to the ninth inning when Ward hit a solo home run to dash his hopes before the Blue Jays secured a 3-1 home win over the Angels.

Later, Ward spoke to reporters after the game, and his comments have not gone down well with the MLB fans. They feel his words not only depreciated the superb performance of Francis, but he also took a swipe at the other hitters in the lineup.

The Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher posted the comments from Taylor Ward through his social media handle on Reddit.

"I thought everything was hittable. Maybe to other guys he made better pitches. Other guys were talking about his split and that being on, but I didn’t think it was anything special,” Ward reportedly said.

These words from Ward have certainly incensed the fans as they let their thoughts out on social media.

"This dude just made him self look like an a*****e," one fan replied on Reddit.

"One whole hit to a guy entering the inning over 110 pitches...act like he accomplished something," on fan posted.

"So why didn't you hit it before," another fan asked.

Bowden Francis produced 12 strikeouts on the night; therefore, the fans feel the comments from Taylor Ward were also a scathing attack on the effort of his teammates.

"No idea how this statement does anything good for anybody...makes his teammates look incompetent," one fan wrote.
"Dude needs either media training or just to shut up. He makes his teammates look bad with this," another fan agreed.
"Threw his whole team under the bus," another fan posted.

The homer from Taylor Ward was the only hit the Angels produced in the game. Blue Jays closer Chad Green replaced Bowden Francis on the mound and retired the side in order to pick up the save.

2024 has been a subpar campaign for Taylor Ward

Despite hitting his 17th home run of the season on Saturday, Taylor Ward has not had a productive season at the plate. The 30-year-old had batted .265/.346/.449 with an OPS+ of 119 over the previous three years.

However, his average has gone down by 30 points this year to .236, while he has only managed an OPS+ of 96 in the 2024 season.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels have dropped to a 54-76 record, which keeps them in last place in the American League West. They will face the Toronto Blue Jays again on Sunday as they look to avoid getting swept in this four-game series.
