Team USA manager Mark DeRosa: "I could argue, this is the greatest team that's ever been assembled"

The 2023 World Baseball Classic is less than a month away and USA manager Mark DeRosa is excited about his team's chances. The pressure will be on DeRosa as he makes his coaching debut with a talented group of players. The USA will be considered one of the favorites going into the tournament.

Team USA will enter the fifth edition of the tournament as reigning champions. Led by Jim Leyland, the team won their first ever classic in 2017. DeRosa worked closely with MLB organizations to put together one of the strongest teams in history.

In a recent interview with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, DeRosa spoke about his excitement about leading this star-studded lineup:

The tournament is set to begin on March 8 and will be jointly hosted between the USA, Taiwan and Japan. The United States will compete in Pool C alongside Mexico, Canada, Great Britain and Colombia.

Mark DeRosa is excited about Team USA's chances at the 2023 WBC with several All-Star players on the roster

The official roster was released last week and the USA is stacked with talent. MVPs Mookie Betts, Paul Goldschmidt and Mike Trout will be called on to lead the offense. Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber will provide some power to the lineup.

Ten-time Gold Glover Nolan Arenado will bring experience and stability to the defensive side. Catchers J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Higashioka and Will Smith will compete for the role of starting catcher.

On the pitching front, three-time National League Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw will be key to the team's chances. Three-time All-Star Adam Wainwright is another veteran on the pitching staff.

Mark DeRosa will like his odds. He will, however, face some tough lineup decisions prior to the start of the tournament. The team is littered with stars from top to bottom. DeRosa will be called on to find the right balance and get this team off to a winning start.
