Teoscar Hernandez was one of the coveted free agents in the offseason after his career-best year with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024 that concluded with a World Series ring in October.
Hernandez squashed speculations around his future after he signed a three-year, $66 million contract with the Dodgers in the last week of December to return to LA.
The Dodgers introduced Hernandez in a press conference on Friday and also visited a mural on 2007 Hoopers Avenue in Los Angeles. The mural is created by artist Gustavo Zermeno Jr., featuring Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez.
On Friday, Hernandez shared the picture of himself standing beside the mural in an Instagram story with a four-word message.
"What a great moment," Hernandez captioned the story.
Despite being surrounded by superstars like Ohtani, Betts and Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez carved his own identity with the team in 2024, emerging as a fan-favorite with 33 home runs and 99 runs in 152 games.
Teoscar Hernandez had his mind made up on a return with Dodgers
Despite rumors of a move away from LA in the offseason, Teoscar Hernandez was never in doubt of a reunion with the Dodgers. He had signed a one-year $23.5 million last offseason and earned his second All-Star selection with the Dodgers in 2024.
During his press conference at Dodger Stadium on Friday, Hernandez said:
"I had my mind clear that I wanted to come back and I was going to do anything in my power to make it work and be back with the Dodgers. They give me the confidence. I didn't get that really in other places. They trust me in everything that I can give them. That was one of the biggest things for me, that pushed me to do the best job that I can do in a Dodgers uniform."
Teoscar Hernandez said he turned down better offers from other teams in favor of a return to the Dodgers where he got a $23 million signing bonus. The two-time veteran All-Star also acknowledged the support of Dodgers fans saying:
"I appreciate since the first day that I got here Dodgers fans were cheering for me. They were giving me the support that I needed to have the season that I had last year. When you have that support as a player, you have to give 110 percent every day."
Teoscar Hernandez will look to emulate the same performance in 2025 as the Dodgers gear up to make another trip to the World Series with the aim of consecutive titles.
