The LA Dodgers agreed with outfielder Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million deal earlier in the offseason. They also re-signed Teoscar Hernandez to a three-year $66 million deal. The two corner outfielders are expected to be livewires in the outfield and key pieces in an already star-studded lineup.
On Monday's "Dodgers Territory" podcast, Hernandez was asked how he felt about his new partner.
"I think the organization knows what they’re looking for, and when they bring Conforto in, if you go around the league and ask about Conforto, it’s the same guy as we have in the organization," Hernandez said. "He’s a great guy, great teammate, he plays hard, and he has had success in the big leagues for a long time now.
"He just hasn’t been that lucky with injuries and all that, but I think it’s going to be a huge addition for us. He can hit lefties really well, he’s been showing it for years now, and just to have one more person the way everybody likes in that clubhouse." [22:02]
Michael Conforto overwhelmed to play with Dodgers stars
Michael Conforto spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco Giants on a two-year, $36 million deal.
Now with the Dodgers, Conforto joins Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman among others. He spoke about the feeling in an interview with Sportsnet LA last month.
“I knew the Dodgers had interest the past couple runs through free agency," Conforto said. "But this one happened quick. Scott (Boras) called me and he said, ‘The Dodgers want to move fast. They’re looking for a one-year deal.’ Kind of a chance for me to reset myself and have a little change of scenery.
"I mean, I couldn’t say no to playing in the lineup with a guy like Shohei, guy like Mookie. I played against Freddie for so many years in the same division (during his time wit Mets). Really have a lot of respect for those guys. Really, up and down the lineup, it’s going to be a pleasure to be a part of it."
Michael Conforto's $17 million contract could end up being an under-the-radar signing for the Dodgers, who is stacked in every department.
