With reports of the Los Angeles Dodgers falling out of the race for the biggest free agent this offseason, new reports are emerging that they're about to re-sign Teoscar Hernandez. The outfielder was brought in on a one-year deal for $23 million and seemingly played his way into another contract with the team.

Hernandez was always a target for the Dodgers, who got 33 home runs, 99 RBIs and an .840 OPS from the left fielder in 2024. He became a fan favorite during the playoffs, too, and he appears poised to return per one Dodgers insider.

David Vassegh said:

"I have good news. My understanding, talking to people around the league, they expect Teoscar Hernandez to re-sign with the Dodgers. ... Many people around the league expect Teoscar Hernandez and the Dodgers to find their way back to each other."

Vassegh said that he has heard that the two sides are "very much engaged" and trying to lock down the final details of the contract right now, meaning an announcement should come sooner rather than later.

The Dodgers dipped their toes into the Juan Soto sweepstakes, but it was reported that they were among the teams that fell out of the race once the price began surging past $600 million. Instead, they will likely bring back Hernandez to play left field and keep Mookie Betts in right field.

Projecting Teoscar Hernandez's contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Teoscar Hernandez had a successful run last year and now reports suggest a signing is imminent. That will presumably be a much longer deal than the first one, which was a bit of a prove-it, one-year contract.

Signed for $23 million, Hernandez had a very good season in LA. It is reasonable to assume he will exceed that AAV on whatever deal he signs this offseason. Hernandez is 32, so the contract likely won't be incredibly lengthy.

A three-year deal for $90 million makes sense. It locks Hernandez up through 2027, giving the Dodgers an offensive core of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith and Hernandez through that year.
