The Los Angeles Dodgers have made several high-profile acquisitions this offseason, with the three-year, $66 million contract for Teoscar Hernandez being one of them. The two-time All-Star slugger returns to the Dodgers lineup after an outstanding campaign with them last year.
Teoscar Hernandez feels the Los Angeles Dodgers are perceived as the ideal destination for a free agent because the organization is fully dedicated to taking care of players and their families.
He said that the Dodgers not only look at the on-field performances but also consider the background of a player to help him lead a happy life off the field, which helps him perform better for the team.
On Monday, Teoscar Hernandez said on the Dodgers Territory podcast about the Dodgers' talent recruitment policy (12:15 - 18:24):
"I think they understand what's going through every player, not only on the field but also off the field," Hernandez said. "It's like they have the experience, the people that know what makes a player good at his job. One of the biggest things is if his family is okay.
"They emphasize a lot on the family side to make a player feel better, feel more comfortable and have that trust in somebody that is taking care of your family, the way you take care of your family," he added. "That's why everybody wants to go over there. And once a player gets to this organization, they don't want to leave anymore because of the way they treat all the people outside of the baseball field."
During his unveiling a couple of weeks back, Hernandez had said that he chose to join the Dodgers despite receiving more lucrative offers from elsewhere.
"In baseball, you've got so much stress": Teoscar Hernandez
As the reigning MLB champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in 2025, are expected to be the first team to win consecutive World Series titles in nearly a quarter century.
Teoscar Hernandez talked about how the players distanced themselves from their families right before the start of the 2024 playoffs to focus on their postseason goals and boost team morale.
"It was more like a time to relax and not even think about our families or our jobs," he said. "It was more like a boys' night out, and not thinking about what's coming that made a difference. In baseball, you've got so much stress throughout the season, and having that time just for us, I think, made the difference.
"I know the wives and the girlfriends don't like that," Hernandez laughed. "But it was something for us to relax and just reset our minds going forward into the playoff games and give everything that we got."
Teoscar Hernandez batted .250/.352/.417 for the Dodgers in the postseason, with three home runs and 12 RBIs.
