In his first year with the Texas Rangers, manager Bruce Bochy delivered their first-ever World Series title. This came after the legendary skipper took a three-year hiatus from coaching.
Bochy now has four World Series rings, tying Joe Torre and Walter Alston. He is also tied with Dusty Baker for fifth in career postseason wins and is 6-0 in winner-take-all games.
Bochy is undeniably one of the best to do it, but he plans to keep adding to his resume. During the World Series Parade on Friday, the 68-year-old addressed the fans, suggesting he is hungry for more success.
"I want to do this again, let's go," said Bochy.
Bruce Bochy said his granddaughter took part in the parade, enjoyed it, and told him that she wanted to do it again. Like any grandparent, Bochy wants to make his grandchild happy,
Expect the Texas Rangers to build upon their core and be contenders next season. However, the front office will have some work to do in the offseason to fill in holes.
Bruce Bochy and Texas Rangers will have to dip into the free-agent market
Bruce Bochy and the Texas Rangers will lose some key arms that they will have to replace before the 2024 season. Jordan Montgomery, Martin Perez, Jake Odorizzi, Aroldis Chapman, Will Smith, and Ian Kenndy are all free agents.
While they have been known to spend money in the offseason and attract stars, it is unlikely they would target Shohei Ohtani. Since he will not be able to pitch during the 2024 season, they would be better off targeting others.
Names like Sonny Gray, Blake Snell, and Aaron Nola would all be frontrunners to sign with the Rangers. They could also go after Japanese sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but he will be hard to land. A ton of teams have already started the conversations with Yamamoto, including the New York Yankees.
With some arms in the bullpen set to leave, Josh Hader and Keynan Middleton could be names that the Rangers target. They would certainly fit in well in Texas.
On the offensive side, Jorge Soler is a player to look out for. He opted out of his contract with the Miami Marlins and is now a free agent. He is coming off a season where he hit 36 home runs, the second-highest in his career.
Watch for the Rangers to add key pieces during the offseason and pick up where they left off.
