Walker Buehler hasn't been great since his return from the minors and that continued on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners. The frustration seems to be sipping into the LA Dodgers' ace, as during a game he threw some wild remarks at home plate umpire C.B. Bucknor.
During the top of the fourth inning, Mariners' Julio Rodriguez and Buehler had an intense faceoff. Buehler got an early 0-2 count with Rodriguez trying to bring home Victor Robles, who doubled off the pitcher earlier in the inning. Buehler's third pitch was a knuckle curve that might have just clipped the inside half of the plate.
However, Bucknor called it a ball, frustrating Buehler, who threw expletives at the home plate umpire:
"That's a F****** strike C.B.!" Buehler said.
Bucknor also exchanged a few words with Buehler, prompting manager Dave Roberts to rush to the field and take control of his pitcher to avoid him getting tossed out.
Following this, Buehler threw two more balls to get the count full. After fouling off two balls, Rodriguez holed out to retire against Buehler. The pitcher then retired Cal Raleigh to end the innings and his outing.
Walker Buehler's struggles on the mound continue
In Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners, Walker Buehler threw four innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. He also walked three while only registering one strikeout.
In his previous start against the Milwaukee Brewers, he could only last 3.1 innings, where he gave up three earned runs on four hits and four walks.
It has been an injury-marred season for Buehler, who has only made two starts since his return from the injured list on Aug. 14.
After a delayed start to the season in May, Buehler was placed on a 15-day injured list due to hip concerns after his outing against the Colorado Rockies on June 18.
Coming into this season, Walker Buehler was rehabbing from his second Tommy John surgery, which led him to miss the entire last season.
Coming into Tuesday's game, Buehler has posted a 6.02 ERA after nine starts in which he has gone 1-4.
The Dodgers will need Buehler to find rhythm like Clayton Kershaw, who also started off on the wrong foot but has pitched well in his last two starts.
