Almost a month ago, Ben Rice got his maiden callup after Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo underwent a right arm fracture, rendering the veteran out for at least two months. Rice not only made his debut on June 18, but he also made his way to the top of the lineup, replacing Anthony Volpe as the Yankees' leadoff hitter.
On Monday, Ben Rice appeared on the latest episode of "The Foul Territory," where he spoke about a lot of things, including his debut, rookie year and his historic three-home run performance. During the show, Derek Levandowski abided by the statement he made the other day if Rice shot the third home run in the game. He did so indeed and Levandowski started shaving his head on the live show.
Next up, Levandowski asked Rice if he was willing to shave his head if the Yankees won the World Series this year, ending their drought since 2009. Rice affirmed and said:
"Sure, sure," Rice said. "That's a fair trade."
"Yeah, you'll take that, first year on the job, winning a World Series with the Yanks, easy the hair grows back, you're very young," host Scott Braun added.
Only time will tell if the Yanks will win the World Series this year and we get to see Rice shaving his head.
Ben Rice becomes first Yankee rookie to slug three home runs in a single game
In the Yankees' 14-4 win against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, franchise history was made as Ben Rice became the first rookie to blast three home runs in a single game.
“It’s definitely a day I’ll never forget,” Rice said in a postgame interaction, per MLB. “I’m just pumped that it was a big-time win for us, a good bounceback win, and over my hometown team. So it’s pretty cool.”
The 25-year-old started the game with a solo shot in the first against Josh Winckowski. He then topped it off with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. He drove in three more with his third home run of the day in the seventh as he capped off an incredible seven RBIs night.
