With 2025 Spring Training almost upon us, Pete Alonso remains a free agent, and ex-Yankees coach Sean Casey has urged the slugger to re-sign with the New York Mets.

The 31-year-old entered free agency this winter. While the Mets have shown interest in him, the two parties are yet to reach an agreement on a deal.

On The Mayor's Office, Casey pushed Alonso to join Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor in New York (11:10 - 16:04):

"It makes sense for Alonso to go back on a short-term deal with some opt-outs and bet on himself but also have the security of a three-year deal. You got Juan Soto, got Alonso, got Lindor. That's your left right left 3-headed monster. I think it just makes sense and I think to see the Polar Bear in another uniform would just be weird.
"I look back man, to be in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame is such an honor, it's not even funny. I'm so grateful when I look back at my career... and when I go back wearing that red jacket, and you're like, 'I'm a part of this fraternity of one of the greatest organizations of all time'."

Casey added:

"When you look at a guy like Pete Alonso, when you look back on your career, if it's not Cooperstown you would like to say I'm a part of the Mets Hall of Fame... hopefully Alonso, one day, can say that about the Mets."

Pete Alonso has proven himself over the past six seasons with the New York Mets. Since his arrival, the slugger has had the most home runs in the NL, with only Aaron Judge recording more homers in the MLB. Moreover, he's a reliable bat who's available throughout the season.

However, Alonso is almost 31, an age when MLB teams are reluctant to hand out long-term contracts. Hence, while he's looking for a contract of at least six years, the Mets haven't yet agreed. As of now, there are several teams in the mix for Alonso, who has a decision to make as we get closer to the new MLB season.

Sean Manaea reveals that he has been working out with Pete Alonso on a daily basis over the winter

Sean Manaea signed a three-year, $75 million deal with the New York Mets this winter and has started his preparation for the upcoming season. After a video of him working out with Pete Alonso surfaced on social media, Manaea said:

"We pretty much work out every day."

As of now, all signs point to a reunion between the Mets and Alonso. However, the longer they take to reach an agreement, the more likely it becomes for other MLB teams to sign him.
