Detroit Tigers pitcher Beau Brieske entangled himself in an awkward position during an interview for the Little League World Series with his team facing off against the New York Yankees. During an ESPN interview on Sunday, the players were asked about a person they would like to meet from the past or present. Beau Brieske picked the 16th U.S. President.
However, the Tigers pitcher realized the error in his choice of words while explaining why he chose Lincoln.
"One person I would love to meet: Abraham Lincoln. I'd just like to pick his brain, to be quite honest. That sounds bad now that I say it," Beau Brieske said on the Little League Classic ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.
While there was nothing wrong with Brieske's selection, it was his choice of words that made it an awkward interaction. For the uninitiated, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated after being shot in the head during his presidential tenure on April 14, 1865.
Tigers ace Beau Brieske comes back strong in series finale against the Yankees
The Tigers righty pitcher took the loss in the team's series opener against the New York Yankees on Saturday. Beau Brieske served as the opener for the Tigers but found it tough against the Yankees hitters.
Brieske needed 30 pitches to get through the first inning, where he walked two hitters and allowed a run on a hit. He was credited with the loss as the Yankees blanked the Tigers 3-0 in the first game of the series.
However, the 26-year-old put together a much better performance in his team's extra-inning win on Sunday. He allowed just one hit while striking out one batter as the Tigers walked it off for a 3-2 win to clinch the series after back-to-back wins.
Brieske's teammate and AL Cy Young contender Tarik Skubal took home the plaudits for his six innings, with the only run against him coming in the sixth. He struck out five Yankees hitters and allowed three hits.
