Reports are swirling that Kyle Tucker could be traded this offseason all while Alex Bregman remains in free agency. Tucker is going to be a free agent at the end of next year, and the Houston Astros might not be able to afford him on a massive extension.

The theoretical trade is reportedly directly linked to Bregman's free agency. The Astros haven't been shy about wanting him back. If they do re-sign him, that eats into Tucker's theoretical extension, thus making him more likely to be traded.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, three teams are in on Bregman right now: the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees and the Astros.

He said:

"We'll see how everything unfolds with Kyle Tucker. I do think the Tucker trade possibility is linked to Bregman in a couple ways. If the Astros trade Tucker away and bring back some prospects, that may allow them to potentially be more aggressive to bring back Bregman."

Morosi noted that they could also trade Tucker to the Chicago Cubs and get Isaac Paredes in return, who would then replace Bregman at third base. If they don't re-sign Bregman, then they can afford to extend Tucker.

Houston also has more of a need to keep a prominent player if it loses Bregman, one of the team's biggest stars. Losing both players, however, would be catastrophic.

Alex Bregman's agent says he's in high demand right now

As a few top free agents, namely Willy Adames and Juan Soto, have already signed, the market for Alex Bregman is really heating up. Several teams are interested, and his agent revealed just how active the market is.

Via Detroit Free Press, Scott Boras said:

"We've had numerous talks with teams and owners, and we all know what comes after an A (Alex) and a B (Bregman) is a C — champion. And in Bregman's case, that's C-squared. All of these teams realize what a leader he is and what a champion he is, plus his skill level. He's very much in demand."

Boras also said Bregman is open to any team that he feels can be competitive and usher in a new age. That might mean a team on the rise that hasn't yet arrived or a contender from last year's postseason.
