Former St. Louis Cardinals slugger Tommy Edman is now a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was acquired a few days before the MLB Trade Deadline in a three-team trade involving the Dogers, Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox.
The Blew Crew received Edman, Michael Kopech and Oliver Gonzalez, while the Cardinals received Erick Fedde, Tommy Pham and cash considerations. The White Sox acquired Miguel Vargas, Jeral Perez, Alexander Albertus and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Edman is on the injured list and is yet to play this season with a wrist injury but is nearing his return. However, he's still a player The Athletic's Katie Woo believes will flourish in LA.

"So, I would describe Tommy Edman as the ultimate Swiss army knife. His manager in the past, Mike Shildt, and his former manager, Oli Marmol would use the phrase 'Steady Eddy" to describe (him). That was kind of his nickname in the clubhouse," - said Woo said on Dodgerheads with host Jeff Spiegel.
Edman is one of the premiere utility players in the league. he can play all over the outfield and has experience playing the middle infield and third base. That gives LA the ability to create favorable matchups.
"He can do it all, he is also a switch hitter. So, what I think you are getting in Tommy Edman is exactly what the Dodgers need because they are so good at creating matchups and creating the ideal lineup, having people that can play different positions and having that versatility really compliments this team" - said Woo.
Woo believes Edman is a great addition to the Blue Crew and should be a huge help while they fight to stay ahead in the National League West.
When could Tommy Edman join the Dodgers?

Tommy Edman is still likely a few weeks away from joining the Dodgers and making his season debut. He will need to undergo a rehab assignment, given all the time he has missed so far.
Edman, in an interview to St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Daniel Guerrero, hinted at a return against his old team. LA plays the Cardinals on Aug. 16 for a three-game series.
Tommy Edman would have to get on his rehab assignment soon if he wants to make that series. Watch for him to ramp things up very soon.
