Chicago Cubs outfielder Mike Tauchman talked about his team's playoff ambitions and how every game is important at this stage of the season. Tauchman's comments come after the Cubs finished a series win against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field on Sunday.
Chicago (55-59) is fourth in NL Central, with the Cardinals (57-55) in second place, making Sunday night's series clincher all the more important in the effort to bridge the gap.
Tauchman spoke to Marquee Sports Network about the importance of the series win:
"We had to win. We gotta play our best baseball. We gotta stack wins and we gotta win series. Everybody knows the stakes in here, and a really good performance all around. Good team win."
With Sunday's victory, Chicago is still six games away from a wild-card spot. Talking about the team's mindset towards eliminating that difference, Tauchman added:
"I think the guys just know we have to play our best ball. There’s not a lot of room for error. The group believes in itself. We believe that we have the right people in here to rattle off some wins. But, yeah, the results got to be here in the next weeks."
