Veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle has been a major boost for the New York Yankees out of the bullpen. The 34-year-old has been another steady presence for the Bronx Bombers out of the pen, providing the club with a number of shutdown, quality innings.
After missing several seasons due to various injuries, Kahnle has emerged as a dependable option for the Yankees, but one of their most lively personalities. Even so, he acknowledged that his role as a father has potentially rounded out his edges in the clubhouse.
"I'm sure they don't miss it much when I'm gone," Kahnle joked about how his teammates feel about his personality in the clubhouse.
Kahnle has shown his big personality on display several times already this postseason. After defeating the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series, a video of Kahnle somersaulting into the team's celebration made the rounds on social media.
Tommy Kahnle also gained attention on social media because of his attire during the team's locker room celebration after the victory. He rocked a black Stone Cold Steve Austin vest as the Yankees celebrated.
Those examples aside, the veteran explained that his role as a father may be one of the reasons why he has toned things down a tad this season.
"I've been a little bit more mellow this year," Kahnle said. "I think it's because I am more tired at home because of my kids, but I think the personality definitely helps, in phases, I should say, can't overdo it."
Even though Tommy Kahnle claims to have settled down a bit this season, it's clear that he is remaining true to himself. What makes it even more noteworthy is the fact that the New York Yankees as an organization have been strict on how players behave and how they present themselves. Kahnle might be allowed to keep joking around as long as he remains cleanly shaved.
Tommy Kahnle has been one of several veteran relievers dominating for the Yankees this postseason
The New York Yankees have long been considered one of the favorites to win the World Series thanks to their superstars like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. However, their bullpen has been one of their brightest spots throughout the postseason.
While bullpens always play a massive role in postseason success, the Yankees have been getting elite production from several veteran journeymen. Tommy Kahnle, Tim Hill and Luke Weaver have been key figures for the Yankees out of the bullpen. They will need to keep it rolling for the Yankees to win their first World Series since 2009.
