MLB fans across the country were left unimpressed with rapper Fat Joe's pregame performance during Game 3 of the World Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers brought on hip-hop icon Ice Cube to perform ahead of Game 2 in Dodger Stadium, which hyped up the crowd and left them with an experience to remember.
In response, the New York Yankees decided to go with Fat Joe to set the mood ahead of the game and it did not sit well with the fans. Here are some of the top reactions from fans on social media:
"They couldn't even get 50 Cent to represent NY?" asked one fan on Twitter.
"LA got ice cube we got fuckin fat joe just give the dodgers the trophy already man," added another.
While some fans complained he is not on the same level as Ice Cube, others wondered why they didn't get a bigger name for the performance.
"Nas, Jay Z, 50, Nicki, Boogie, and he was chosen?" one fan questioned.
"This was awful and Yankees should be embarassed," one fan wrote on X.
"I like Fat Joe, but this is a Fat No for me," added another fan.
Fat Joe was born in the Bronx borough of New York City in 1970, where he was raised by parents of Cuban and Puerto Rican descent. He rose to prominence as a rapper in the early 1990s as part of the rap group D.I.T.C. He has since grown into a well-known rapper, songwriter and record executive, working with several record labels like Virgin, Atlantic, Warner Bros and Empire over the years.
While he is a respected rapper in his own right, the Bronx native's performance ahead of Game 3 in the World Series left the majority of the fans unimpressed. It didn't help as the Yankees went on to lose 4-2 on the night, adding to the New York fans' frustrations.
Former Yankees captain Derek Jeter throws ceremonial first pitch after Fat Joe performance in WS Game 3
While the first games of the World Series in the Dodger Stadium featured some of the biggest names in Hollywood, the New York Yankees had some big names of their own. The former captain and five-time World Series champion Derek Jeter threw the perfect ceremonial first ptich.
Several other high-profile ex-Yankees, like CC Sabathia, Gary Sheffield and HOF manager Joe Torre, also took to the ground ahead of the game.
