"They're in dire need of a starting pitcher" - MLB insider urges Orioles to trade for arms with suspicion Corbin Burnes leaves in free agency

Corbin Burnes' times could be coming down to an end in Baltimore with the Orioles. The veteran righty is working on a one-year deal after he was traded from the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason.

It was a great move to bring in an established ace for Baltimore, but being on a one-year deal, things have to happen this year. While they have put themselves in a good spot this season, there is still much work to be done.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal believes it would make a lot of sense for Baltimore to go look at arms ahead of the trade deadline. Not only could they use one or two this year, but a growing concern is that Burnes will test free agency at the end of the year.

"Even the Orioles, they're really good. But, they're in dire need of a starting pitcher, not just for the rest of this season, but beyond, because Corbin Burnes is not coming back," Rosenthal said.

It would not make sense for Burnes not to go and test the market out after this season. He is one of the most dominant starting pitchers in the league and is looking to make a good chunk of change.

Luckily for the Orioles, there are some exciting pitchers playing for some poor teams this season. One team that has some of the most exciting arms that could be traded is the Chicago White Sox.

One pitcher who has a high ceiling and is expected to be traded is Garrett Crochet. He was taken 11th overall in the 2020 MLB Draft and skipped the minor leagues entirely to help the club in the bullpen. Now, he works as a starter, making for some uncomfortable at-bats for lefties.

"So, Crochet for them makes all the sense in the world. They have position player prospects that the White Sox badly need," Rosenthal said.

Rosenthal believes Crochet to Baltimore would be a no-brainer of a trade. While he would acquire some good talent to be poached, Baltimore has that talent in their system to make a deal happen.

With the deadline slowly approaching, this could start to pick up steam. Baltimore needs to do something ahead of the deadline, and this seems to be the best option for this season and beyond.
