It seems "walking" is the only way pitchers can avoid Aaron Judge crushing their pitches to the stands. The New York Yankees captain set the record for most home runs in a single season (62 HRs) in the American League in 2022. It seems he's on pace to better that record, having already smashed 45 with over a month to go for regular season closure.
MLB ON FOX crew discussed the hitting marvels Judge and Juan Soto, who are carrying the Yankees to the postseason. MLB insider Eric Karros offered a funny explanation for Judge's hitting form:
"They're not walking him enough!"
Further on, Karros added that it'd be "foolish" for teams to pitch to them in the postseason.
"Both of these guys are obviously hitting the ball out of the park. But the real issue is that they're both great hitter. And when they're walking that much, it's not because teams are pitching around them—it's because they're that disciplined to lay off pitches that are just off the zone. That's where the real problem arises.
"That's why you don't even give them a chance to swing the bat. Now, I get it, it's the regular season. But I'll tell you what, in the postseason, if those guys beat you or if those guys get pitched to, then you're foolish." [1:00 onwards].
Marcus Stroman seeds the combo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto above legendary duo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig
Amid much fan-fare, the hitting numbers shared between Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have put them in conversation of best hitting duels season in MLB history.
That conversation is spearheaded by legendary combo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, who combined for a bWAR of 24.4 in 1927 season (Ruth 12.6 and Gehrig 11.8).
However, Marcus Stroman seemingly rateshis fellow teammates above them.
In 1927, the combo of Ruth and Gehrig combined for 107 home runs, with the former strucking 60 while the latter strucking 47.
In comparison, the duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have combined for 81 home runs this season. Judge has smashed 45, while Soto is at 36.
