On Tuesday night, many of the MLB's best players converged on Arlington, Texas, for the 2024 All-Star Game. It was an exciting event that featured a number of thrilling moments, including a home run from Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani and the All-Star debut of Paul Skenes.
In the end, the American League won 5-3, with Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox being named as the 2024 All-Star Game MVP. It was an exciting night for MLB fans across the globe as they were treated to seeing many of the league's top players participating in the same game.
That being said, one part of the entire event rubbed many people, including sports commentator Dan Patrick: the uniforms. There has been much discussion surrounding the uniforms for both the American and National Leagues, with many in favor of the league shifting back to players wearing their own team's jerseys.
"The uniforms were terrible. ... I thought the uniforms were softball-ish," Dan Patrick said on the latest episode of his hit sports radio program, The Dan Patrick Show. "They tried too hard. Just make it an All-Star Game, you wear your uniforms. If you want to wear those things for the home run derby, fine. Not for the All-Star Game. I felt bad for some of those guys."
The 2019 Midsummer Classic was the last time the MLB had the All-Stars wearing their team's uniforms. Now, the league has decided that the teams should be wearing matching uniforms, with only the names on the back being the only difference.
Bryce Harper shares Dan Patrick's opinion on the All-Star Game jerseys reverting to individual teams
Dan Patrick's opinion that the MLB should revert to players wearing their individual team uniforms is one that several players, including Bryce Harper, share. On Monday, the Philadelphia Phillies superstar was asked about the current state of the All-Star uniforms.
“If we could change back to that, I think it would be really cool," Harper said.
It appears that both Patrick and Harper could have their wishes come true as MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has hinted at a potential change to the uniforms in the future.
