Seattle Mariners have been facing a steep downfall since July. Their 15-12 record in June was the last time they had a monthly winning percentage above .500 this season.

The Mariners also lost the top spot in the AL West Division to the Houston Astros (currently 69-58), as the playoffs spot uncertainty swirls around the club with their 64-64 season record.

Amid their mid-season slump, the team made a surprising move by terminating the services of long-time manager Scott Servais on Thursday, as reported by Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.

“Scott Servais learned of his firing this morning from a breaking news alert on social media, a couple hours before he was scheduled to meet with Jerry Dipoto,” Jude posted on X (formerly Twitter).

This news took social media by storm and fans gathered to support one of the club’s winningest manager’s firing.

“This is Absurd, unacceptable,” a fan said.
“Just dreadful! Be better Mariners!” a fan said.

However, the way the organization handled it has made fans even more frustrated. The news of Servais’ dismissal broke via The Athletic on Thursday morning and was later confirmed and published in a report by mlb.com, making both the fans and Scott Servais learned of the decision at the same time.

“If i read i was gonna be fired on social media, i would just simply not show up to work,” one fan said.
“Way to stay classy Mariners. Ten years with the club and you didn’t have the decency to do this privately face to face. This just sums up the “qualities” of this franchise,” another fan said.
“That seems to be the trend this day and age... Firings thru social media posts,” a fan said.

Mariners’ Hall of Famer and former catcher, Dan Wilson is reportedly the replacement for Servais for the rest of the season and beyond.

Seattle Mariners' history under Scott Servais

Jerry Dipoto, Mariners president of the baseball operation, stated “friend” Scott Servais’ dismissal was a “difficult” and “tough” decision as they are looking for a “different voice and direction.”

Servais, who joined the organization in 2016, is the longest-tenured and the winningest manager with a 680-642 record for the Mariners only behind the great Lou Piniella. After a nine-season long service, he’ll be leaving the team with a sole postseason appearance in the 2022 AL Division Series, losing to the Astros.

As the Marines prepare to rebound from their recent sweep by the LA Dodgers, it remains to be seen if the parting with Scott Servais turned out to be a good move or bad.
