Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout was working to return from a meniscus tear he suffered earlier in the season. The slugger had surgery on his left knee, hoping to fix the problem, but he experienced a setback during his first minor league rehab game.
On Thursday it was announced that Trout tore his meniscus once again, and he will not return this season. This leaves him with playing in just 29 games this season, which is disappointing for many baseball fans.
Trout addressed the situation on X/Twitter, detailing that he was frustrated with the whole ordeal. He had his sights set on a healthy season, and came into the year with a plan, but nobody can account for a meniscus tear, let alone two.
"Since my intial surgery on May 3rd to repair my meniscus, my rehabilitation proved longer and more difficult than anticipated. After months of hard work, I was devestated yesterday when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again - ending my hopes of returning this season," Trout said.
Trout will have to undergo yet another surgery to repair the meniscus. There is no denying how hard this is hitting the 11-time All-Star:
"Playing and competing is a huge part of my life. This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans. I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me, I will do everything I can to come back even stronger," he added.
Trout understands his constant IL trips have been a talking point, but there is not much he can do about it. He vowed to come back a better player once he can recover:
"I will continue to help my team and teammates from the dugout as we press forward into the second half of the season. Thank you for your support," he said.
It has been a rough few seasons for Mike Trout and the Angels
Since the 2021 season, Mike Trout has landed on the IL 10 different times. While he is the Angels' best player, he has left them in a pretty tough spot on more than a few occasions.
Over the last four seasons, he has missed 334 games. The Halos might want to think about moving on from their leader, even if that means taking some heat from the fanbase.
