Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert was caught on tape playing a video game in the dressing room after completing his outing. Bur the rest of the team was still outside, as the game had not finished yet. Former major leaguer Trevor Plouffe said that he wasn't surprised by the actions of the Mariners pitcher but feels the clip has exposed an existing double standard in the MLB.

Plouffe was an infielder who played for nine years in the big leagues, most of which were spent with the Minnesota Twins. Nowadays, he's often seen as a featured guest at various podcasts for Jomboy Media. He gave his opinion on the video footage of Logan Gilbert in one of their shows.

Meanwhile, Logan Gilbert is having an excellent season in 2024 after earning his maiden All-Star selection earlier this year. The 27-year-old has been the top performer of a vaunted Mariners starting rotation. Despite a 7-8 record, Gilbert has a miserly 2.91 ERA from 154.2 innings and leads the major leagues with his 0.873 WHIP.

On Saturday, Gilbert pitched seven shutout innings against the New York Mets to play a starring role in the 4-0 win for the Seattle Mariners. A video was later posted on social media, which showed Gilbert playing a video game after completing his performance. However, it seems that the game on the field had not ended, as there were no Mariners players inside the dressing room at the time.

On Monday, Plouffe was asked to share his thoughts on this video of Logan Gilbert during the Baseball Today podcast hosted by Chris Rose.

"This is what starting pitchers do. They don't really come back out into the dugout after they are done pitching. I'm assuming he's got ice; I'm assuming he's got something going on, some rehab. But this is what they do," Plouffe replied.

Plouffe feels that starting pitchers get a lot of leeway from the team management to do what they want compared to the rest of the players. He feels baseball fans are now beginning to realize this fact due to the emergence of such video footage from behind the scenes.

According to Trevor Plouffe, the video of Logan Gilbert playing a computer game before the Seattle Mariners completed their victory over the New York Mets exposes a double standard that exists within baseball.

Plouffe believes that while such actions are accepted by the teams from a starting pitcher, a position player will not be allowed to act in the same manner.

"Now, say I was a third baseman in that game, and I went two for three with a homer, a double, and four runs driven in. So I did my job the same way that Logan Gilbert did. I dominated the game, then I got lifted for a pinch runner, and then I came back and started playing Madden 25," Plouffe said.
"There is a little bit of a double standard, right? You would say to the position player, don't go do that, you gotta root for your team."

Plouffe also said that although the video may come as a shock to many fans, it's not really a serious issue and doesn't feel the Mariners will be too fussed about it.
