With the Kansas City Royals on the road to Yankee Stadium, the American League MVP debate between Bobby Witt Jr. and Aaron Judge has picked up steam. The pair have recorded some impeccable numbers, seeing both fanbases at loggerheads.
Royals director of media relations Nick Kappel put up a post on X, formerly Twitter, drawing a comparison between Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr.'s home run-hitting prowess. The post had a stat that showed if the players swapped their home stadiums, they would have the same home run count.
Yankees fans were quickly onto the scene as they called the comparison baseless. They said even if Witt and Judge swapped their home stadiums, that would still leave out the 81 games they would have to play on the road. Moreover, the post solely puts home runs as the best metric to judge an MVP race.
"Yankee fans aren’t gonna like this one lmfao," one fan wrote.
"This is stupid since neither play all their games at their home ball park. You’re trying to diminish Judge’s HR total by insinuating he has 51 HRs due to playing at Yankee Stadium where half of his HRs have been hit on the road. Do better," one fan blasted Kappel.
"And if you're 11 and think home runs are the most important thing in baseball, then that's great! Defense, baserunning aggressiveness... These things matter," a fan reasoned.
"Classic case of moving goalposts to sell a faulty narrative," another wrote.
"Haha come on bad sell job," a fan said.
Yankees take Game 1 vs. Royals in convincing fashion
The New York Yankees recorded a solid 10-4 win against the Royals in the series opener on Monday. Both Bobby Witt and Aaron Judge were unable to go yard, however, the latter recorded an RBI in the seventh innings.
Austin Wells was the star for the Bombers, driving in four runs, including a three-run homer. Carlos Rodon was strong on the mound, striking out nine across 6.0 innings while earning just three runs. For the Royals, their bullpen let them down, as they earned seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
