When it comes to MLB gameplay, the home run is impossible to beat. As fans are well aware, there is a relatively small cluster of active MLB stars who are responsible for a disproportionate amount of bombs.

Today, we will be running through the leaderboard of active MLB home run hitters. While some of the names will come as no surprise, others may not be who you were expecting to see.

Top ten active MLB home run leaders

10) Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh

Andrew McCutchen has spent 11 of his 16 seasons in the big leagues playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and has treated fans of that team to some special moments.

McCutchen's 235 home runs in a Pirates uniform ranks fourth in the franchise. A career .273 hitter across 2,127 games, McCutchen's 319 home runs rank 10th among active players.

9) Carlos Santana, Minnesota

He may not be the flashiest player in baseball, but Carlos Santana of the Minnesota Twins is very consistent. Now 38 years old, the first baseman put up a 23-homer season in 2024, marking the ninth time in his career he has surpassed that threshold. The highest-ranking Dominican born player on the list, Santana's 324 home runs rank ninth among active players.

8) JD Martinez, New York

JD Martinez has played for six teams over his 14-year MLB tenure. However, wherever Martinez has gone, slugging has been a constant. At 36, Martinez became the oldest member of the Los Angeles Dodgers to record 30 home runs. Currently, the 37-year-old has 331 career home runs.

However, despite the sluggish season, Arenado has performed among the best. The purveyor of 84 home runs since the start of 2022, Arenado also touts an impressive slashline of .277/.333/.461 over the past three seasons. A native of Southern California, Arenado's 341 home runs rank sixth among active players.

5) Manny Machado, San Diego

Although he was largely seen as a villain during his early days with the O's, Manny Machado is now seen as the keystone of the San Diego Padres' clubhouse. A seven-time 30 home run hitter, Machado has also had five seasons - including 2024 - in which he hit over 100 RBIs. The player who lays claim to the largest contract ever dished out by the Padres, Machado has 342 career home runs.

4) Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles

The postseason heroics of Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman earned him the 2024 World Series MVP Award. A big man with a career .899 OPS, Freeman has made an impact for both the Braves and Dodgers in his career. In 2,032 games spread across fifteen seasons, Freeman has hit 343 home runs.

2) Mike Trout, Los Angeles

While his injuries have caused concern lately, Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels can still be tremendously proud of what he has done to date. A three-time MVP Award winner, Trout is the face of his team. In addition to amassing a career .541 slugging percentage, Trout's 378 home runs rank second among all active players.
