Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had to exit today's Spring Training game due to right knee discomfort. It happened during his at-bat in the first inning, where he hit the ball up the middle and went into second base awkwardly.
He was taken out of the game in the second inning, walking slowly to the dugout. The young slugger is expected to leave for Miami soon to play in the World Baseball Classic. We'll have to wait and see if Team Dominican Republic will have Guerrerro Jr. in their corner.
Not much is known outside of just the general discomfort. Hopefully, it's just a minor injury. The Blue Jays will need to be at full strength if they plan on competing in the American League East.
It's a terrible time to go down with an injury, with the WBC just five days away on March 8. Vladimir Guerrero jr. was excited to represent the Dominican Republic in the tournament. Now, he may not get to participate.
"No WBC. Don't even think about sending him anymore" one fan tweeted.
"The one thing we don't need in Spring Training is injuries" said another fan.
This is the last thing that Toronto Blue Jays fans wanted to hear. The team goes as he does. To lose him for any amount of time would be devastating.
While the injury didn't look all that serious, you never know. It doesn't take much to tweak a knee.
Toronto Blue Jays will need Vladimir Guerrero Jr. if they want a shot at competing for a division title
Nearly every team in the American League East got better over the offseason. It's going to be one of the most competitive divisions in all of baseball this year.
The New York Yankees won the division last year, and they look like true contenders to do it again. They did everything they needed to do in the winter by re-signing Aaron Judge and bringing in Carlos Rodon.
The Blue Jays made some moves of their own over the winter by trading for Daulton Varsho. He's one of the most versatile players in the league with his ability to play catcher and outfield. They also signed Gold Glover Kevin Kiermaier to help George Springer in the outfield.
The team has what it takes to compete with the Bronx Bombers. But they'll need Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to get healthy first.
