Toronto Blue Jays All-Star outfielder George Springer's heartwarming display of empathy towards a kid with a speech disorder is winning hearts on the internet.
On Mar. 2, MLB.com writer Jesse Sanchez published a stirring article involving his son, Mateo, who's suffering from speech impediment. Like young Mateo, Springer has struggled with a stutter throughout his life. However, over time, with the right therapy, he has been able to progressively overcome his stammer.
So, how did Mateo and Springer meet?
In 2017, Sanchez set up a meeting between his son Jesse and Springer in 2017 while the four-time All-Star was a member of the Astros. Ever since Springer won the young boy with his kindness, the two have been close friends. Springer and Mateo got along well, as they had something in common and could connect with one another.
"When I was a kid, I was in that position ... knew, felt and understood exactly what he was going through," said Springer.
