The New York Yankees have shared a positive update on their star Trent Grisham's condition after he left the pitch early during their game against the Texas Rangers. The Yankees are currently on a two game losing streak having lost back to back games against the defending World Series champions yesterday.
Grisham started today in the first match of the Yankees' doubleheader against the Rangers. However, he had to leave the pitch early after getting hit by a pitch from reliever Brock Burke in the fourth inning of the game. He was replaced by 3B Oswaldo Cabrera in the batting order and by Jazz Chisholm defensively.
According to reports, the player did not suffer a broken hand and has just a contusion on his hand as per the initial test results.
"Trent Grisham left today's game with a left hand contusion. Initial CT scan and x-ray were negative."
The Yankees have faced a lot of injuries this season, with Grisham being the latest addition to that list, at least temporarily, as it seems there's nothing major in his case. However, due to the swelling, he is expected to miss the series finale against the Rangers on Aug 11 (Sunday).
Aaron Boone reflects on Trent Grisham's injury
In the post-game interview, the Yankees manager Aaron Boone opened up on Trent Grisham's early exit from the Rangers game after getting hit by pitch.
"He got smoked pretty good. It swelled up on him right away, it was little ugly when we first went out there but the X-Rays were negative, and we sent him for a CT scan just to be safe and those came negative too. So I think we dodged a bullet there again. We will see what we have now, today tomorrow and moving forward, but nothing's broken."
Grisham has played 64 games so far this season, hitting .191, with an OPS of .683, 7 HRs, and 24 RBIs. The Yankees are currently fighting for the top spot in the AL East with the Baltimore Orioles, who are the first team this season with 70 wins. As the postseason nears, the regular season is at a crucial stage and Aaron Boone will need all hands on deck to help his side achieve favorable results.
