Former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer has once again taken center stage, but this time for his uncanny resemblance to a character from the highly acclaimed "House of the Dragon" TV series. A fan on social media pointed out how similar Bauer and "House of the Dragon" character Ser Staffon Darklyn, portrayed by Anthony Flanagan, look.
The former Cy Young winner re-posted the fan's story on his social media with a hilarious take on MLB not letting him play.
Bauer got the TV series wrong as he wrote "Game of Thrones," a series with a direct connection to "House of the Dragon." Upon seeing the success of "GOT," HBO decided to make its prequel, resulting in the release of "HOD."
"Trevor on #GOT since #mlb doesn't let him play," Bauer wrote in his post.
The picture Bauer shared was from a scene in "House of the Dragon" Season 2 Episode 6, where Rhaenyra, who was declared heir to the Iron Throne by her father Viseryes, is trying to stake her claim back from Aegon, the son of Alicent Hightower and her father.
In an attempt to get an advantage by finding dragonriders for unclaimed Seasmoke (a dragon) below the Dragonstone, Rhaenyra asks Ser Staffon to try and tame Seasmoke. Ser Staffon shivered as he tried to lay his claim on the dragon, who, in response, burned him alive and a few others who were near him.
Trevor Bauer is more serious about attempting to get back in MLB than hilarious social media responses
Sunday's story from Trevor Bauer was much deeper than many understood. Throughout the season, Bauer has been trying to get back in the league both from his on-field and off-field actions.
He's currently playing for the Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League, where he leads pitchers in ERA and strikeouts. He has been wreaking havoc there and, during the season, has claimed that he deserves a spot in the MLB.
On social media, as well, he and his agent, Rachel Luba, have been constantly highlighting Bauer's pitching prowess in an attempt to receive a major league contract.
In June, baseball historian Bill James warned MLB about an impending lawsuit coming its way if it didn't encourage teams to sign Bauer. A fan tagged Bauer to know his opinion about the same.
"I’d really prefer not to go this route but if I continue being kept out of baseball as I currently am I may have no other choice. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that and I’m allowed to return to my career that was taken from me over provably false allegations that never held any merit to begin with," Bauer wrote on X.
It's been three years since Trevor Bauer last played for the LA Dodgers in June 2021. In the wake of sexual assault allegations, the franchise put him on administrative leave, and he was subsequently released in January 2023.
But before that, the league suspended the pitcher for 324 games, which, on later appeal, was reduced to 184 games for violating the league's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
The sexual assault cases against Trevor Bauer have now been settled or dismissed, and he is cleared to play in the league. Despite that, he's still waiting for a major league contract to come his way.
