The Los Angeles Dodgers have been preparing for the postseason with one of their biggest concerns still being their pitching woes. Many of the NL West leaders' pitchers are on the injured list, including Tyler Glasnow, whose season was cut short due to a sprained right elbow.

Glasnow's season-ending injury was a big blow for the club. However, manager Dave Roberts recently shared some good news for the team, as an injured pitcher is set to return and could take on the responsibilities in Glasnow’s absence.

According to the LA Times' Jack Harris, Roberts has revealed there could be a "conversation" with right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin about rejoining the Dodgers for the rest of the 2024 season.

Gonsolin, who is currently rehabbing in the minors, is set to make a four-inning rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City, after which the team will decide on his return. If he performs well, the club could decide in favor of his return.

Tony Gonsolin has been recovering from Tommy John surgery following an elbow injury in 2023. Roberts also described Gonsolin’s return as a "longer shot", but the Dodgers are keeping their options open due to their pitching problems.

Could Tony Gonsolin be a good option to cover for Tyler Glasnow?

Last year, Tyler Glasnow pitched in 21 games, finishing with a 10-7 record, a 3.53 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over 120 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays. On the other hand, before being sidelined in the 2023 season, Tony Gonsolin started 20 games for the Dodgers.

Gonsolin had a 4.98 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP over 103 innings pitched, allowing 57 earned runs. During the 2024 season, he has made two rehab starts, the first on Sept. 10 where he pitched two innings while allowing two hits, no walks and no earned runs while recording three strikeouts.

In his second start on Sunday, he pitched 2.2 innings while allowing five hits, two earned runs and one walk. Meanwhile this year, Glasnow pitched a career-high 134 innings, recording a 3.49 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP.

If Gonsolin’s third rehab start goes well and the Los Angeles Dodgers decide to add him, he could provide some relief to their pitching problems. If he remains healthy, he might have a chance to match Glasnow’s performance.
