For the second time in five seasons, Walker Buehler and the Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions. After opening the year as the betting favorites to win it all, the Dodgers overcame plenty of adversity en route to their eighth title in franchise history.
Despite having a star-studded roster with players such as Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts, the Dodgers had to overcome a number of significnat injuires all season.
Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow and Gavin Stone are some of the players who missed extended time this season for Los Angeles.
For Buehler, it was a difficult season for the veteran, however, when it all came down to it, he came through in the clutch for this team. In Game 5 of the World Series, the Dodgers held a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Buehler entered the game as a closer and shut down the New York Yankees batters to secure the crown.
It's been a difficult season for Buehler, who struggled to produce like his previous All-Star form after returning to the roster from injury. Yet, the veteran pitcher reminded everyone of the talent he possesses in his throwing arm, even earning a shoutout from stand-up comedian and podcaster Theo Von in the process.
"What a year!!! @buehlersdayoff21" - Theo Von posted on his Instagram story.
It's unsurprising to see Theo Von give the Dodgers pitcher a shoutout after striking out Alex Verdugo to clinch the World Series. The pair are friends and go back a long way, with Buehler even appearing on an episode of Von's podcast "This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von."
Walker Buehler's future with the Los Angeles Dodgers remains uncertain
The veteran pitcher will now enter an unpredictable offseason after winning his second World Series title. Buehler is an unrestricted free agent and it remains to be seen if the Dodgers will offer him a contract extension.
Injuries have robbed the two-time All-Star of the prime of his career, however, when he first burst onto the scene, he quickly became one of the most exciting young arms in the game.
Given his success in the past, as well as winning two titles with the Dodgers, it wouldn't be surprising if he was offered a deal, it just might not be the massive deal it seemed he was on track for when he was a true star.
