On Thursday, Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees were looking to avoid a series sweep against the Cincinnati Reds. They lost the first two games, adding to their terrible stretch lately.
Ahead of the game, an epic standoff occurred between Cincinnati's Graham Ashcraft and New York's Cody Poteet and Ian Hamilton. They stayed out there even as the Yanks went onto the field to warm up.
While Poteet and Hamilton were standing their ground, it got to the point that Boone was over it. He urged his players to end the standoff, giving the win to Ashcraft and the Reds.

Standoffs are nothing new in baseball, but it is increasingly getting more popular. It is hilarious to see just how competitive professional athletes get when there is seemingly nothing on the line but bragging rights.
The standoff lasted for a whole five minutes, which is pretty long. According to the Yanks play-by-play announcer, Michael Kay, this is the first time he has seen the club involved in a standoff.
The standoff was not the only thing Aaron Boone and the Yankees lost
The standoff was not the only thing that Aaron Boone and the Yankees lost on Thursday. They ended up losing the game 8-4 and were swept in their home ballpark.
Marcus Stroman did not have his best start as he lasted just 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on five hits, three of those being home runs. The bullpen then combined to give up the remaining three runs.
Offensively, there was not much to write home about. Frankie Montas got revenge on his former club, going five innings and giving up just two earned runs. He helped his club reach their 42nd win.
Aaron Judge and three other Bronx Bombers hitters went hitless during the afternoon. Alex Verdugo was a bright spot, going 3-for-4 at the plate, but it was not enough to help carry his team to victory.
This has not been a good stretch for the club, who started off the year on fire. They now sit in second place in the AL East, two games behind the division-leading Baltimore Orioles.
Things do not get easier for the Yanks going forward. They have some tough series this month including one with the Orioles and one with the Philadelphia Phillies at the end of July.
