New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge broke his World Series drought in Game 5 on Wednesday after the Yankees captain launched a two-run home run against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty.
The Yankee Stadium rose to its feet for the All-Star slugger's first home run of the Fall Classic this year to give the Yankees a two-run lead in the first inning. It was Judge's third home run of what has been an underwhelming postseason.
Following the captain's lead was new Yankees acquisition Jazz Chisholm Jr. as he struck a solo home run in the next at-bat with the Yankees going back to back for an early three-run lead to back ace Gerrit Cole on the mound. It was the fifth time the Bronx Bombers went back-to-back in a World Series game.
The Yankees added another run after Alex Verdugo's RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts took Jack Flaherty off the mound after just two innings. The hosts lead 4-0 at the end of the second inning in the do-or-die Game 6 of the World Series.
Giancarlo Stanton continues hot streak after Aaron Judge's first World Series homer
Things got worse for the Dodgers' pitching staff as Ryan Brasier was picked off by Giancarlo Stanton for a solo home run in the third inning. It was Stanton's seventh October home run this year, the most by a Yankees in a single postseason.
Aaron Judge struggled in the World Series, managing his first and only hit of the Fall Classic in Game 4 on Tuesday when the Yankees offense came to life in a blowout 11-4 win to force Game 5.
