New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge has put together an MVP-calibre season while the Bronx Bombers continue their hunt for a postseason spot. Judge set a remarkable record during his team's blowout win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
The former AL MVP smoked White Sox reliever Chad Kush for a three-run homer in the eighth inning to increase the Bronx Bombers' lead to 9-2 in the series finale. While it added a 43rd home run to his league-leading tally this season, the Yankees captain also reached the 300th home run mark with that moonshot.
While 300 home runs is an impressive feat in itself, Judge became the fastest to that mark in MLB history. The MVP contender reached the mark in just 955 games, remarkably quicker than the previous record holder, Ralph Kiner, who had 300 home runs in 1,087 games.
His Yankees teammate Giancarlo Stanton, who has 422 home runs to his name in his career, lauded Aaron Judge after his latest accomplishment.
“It’s incredible,” Stanton said. “He does something special every day. Being able to see most of his career, it’s been fun to watch his evolution. He’s got more in store.”
White Sox's Grady Sizemore touches on intentionally walking Juan Soto before Aaron Judge's historic home run
While Aaron Judge's home run was the highlight of the night, the White Sox's decision to intentionally walk Juan Soto to get Judge at the plate for his historic feat caught the eyes of fans.
However, the White Sox's interim manager Grady Sizemore addressed the thought process behind the decision.
"It's pick your poison. I'm not trying to get to Judge. I got a base open," Sizemore said. "There's no solution or an easy way out of that jam, but Soto's definitely been the hotter of those two bats, even though Judge has been hot, too."
Judge's home run saw him join an illustrious list of Yankees players, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and Alex Rodriguez, to have hit 300 home runs for the Yankees.
