Benches clear in Phillies-Giants series finale

Tempers flared in the Phillies-Giants series finale at Oracle Park on Wednesday afternoon after a wild pitch by SF starter Kyle Harrison almost took Bryce Harper's helmet away, as he somehow came out of the whole incident unscathed. Game 3 of the NL inter-divisional series saw the Giants looking for a sweep while the Phillies wanted to avoid one.

With runners on second and third, two outs, and a 2-2 count in the top of the fourth inning, left-hander Harrison threw an unhittable 93 mph pitch that either nicked Bryce Harper's helmet or bat.

The slugger's quick evasive actions prevented injury from the wild pitch. This incident visibly left Harper enraged, particularly because it was the second straight pitch that came up and in at him. As the benches quickly cleared, play was stopped momentarily and discussion ensued between the two dugouts.

Take a look at the whole incident involving Bryce Harper and Kyle Harrison from Oracle Park here:

Some pushing and shoving could be observed between the two camps, but all the commotion on the field soon cleared out as play resumed. Despite being ground out to shortstop at the end of the fourth inning, it was a decent day for Bryce Harper, as he finished 1-5 with one RBI in the eighth.

Giants starter Kyle Harrison, on the other hand, had a difficult outing as he gave up four runs on 12 hits and struck out five batters in five innings pitched.

Oracle Park witnessed a fitting end to a feisty NL series between the Phillies and the Giants

Oracle Park was treated to one of the best series played out at home by the San Francisco Giants as they almost took down the rampant Phillies in a three-game series. San Francisco won Game 1, 8-4, and carried that momentum into a low-scoring Game 2, shutting out Philadelphia to win 1-0.

But the Philadelphia Phillies are a resilient unit, and they never back down. They avoided a series sweep on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos's valiant at-bats that resulted in home runs in the series finale at Oracle Park.

Bryce Harper had a relatively quiet series, but his altercation with Giants starter Kyle Harrison seemingly boosted the morale in the away team dugout as they won the contest 6-1.
