Famous author, athlete and bowhunter Cameron Hanes was thrilled to attend a Pittsburgh Pirates game as rookie ace Paul Skenes' guest on August 14. The Pirates lost 8-2 to the Padres in the series finale at Petco Park on Wednesday as San Diego completed a series sweep against Skenes' team.
Paul Skenes didn't start during the three-game series but cheered on for his teammates throughout the series. The series finale saw him interact with Cameron Hanes before the start of the contest as he stood on the sidelines while the teams practiced on the field.

"Pumped to be the guest of @paulskenesotonight at the Padres/Pirates game in San Diego. Setting up the Lift. Run. Shoot. Gonna be fun."
Paul Skenes has been highly impressive in his rookie season since making his MLB debut in May.
He rushed to a 6-0 record in the first half of the season, with a commendable ERA and WHIP rate, which helped him earn a nod to feature in the Midsummer Classic with the NL All-Stars in Arlington, Texas, on July 17.
The 22-year-old produced two amazing seasons in his collegiate career with the Air Force Falcons and the LSU Tigers. Skenes helped the Tigers claim their seventh NCAA title in 2023, which led to the Pirates selecting him as the first overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft and giving him a $9.6 million signing bonus.
After spending a few months in the minor leagues, he was called up to the Pirates 40-man roster. But the ace rookie pitcher has hit a minor slump since the resumption of action after the All-Star break, as he has failed to register a win in four starts, losing twice.
Paul Skenes will hope for a win in his next start against Seattle
Paul Skenes will make his next start in the series opener between the Pirates and the Mariners on Friday at home in PNC Park.
Pittsburgh will have a much-needed day off on Thursday as they travel from the West to the East coast after losing the series against the Padres.
Skenes is 6-2 for the season with a 2.25 ERA, 115 strikeouts and 0.96 WHIP this season. He will look to register a much-needed morale-boosting win on Friday night.
