The Philadelphia Phillies have just walked it off for the third time this year, thanks to star slugger Bryce Harper. Philadelphia won game two of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals as Harper's sacrifice fly in center field aided them to yet another walk-off win on Saturday night at home in Citizens Bank Park.
Harper's line drive was caught by Washington's CF Jacob Young but was deep enough to allow Miguel Rojas to easily score from the third base, and thereby the Phillies clinched a nail-biting 4-3 win to seal another series win.
It turned out to be a thrilling contest between the Phillies and the Nationals on Saturday night. Washington took the lead three times; in the top of the first inning, then in the top of the fifth inning, and finally in the top of the ninth inning. But the resilient Philadelphia roster answered back every time.
Shortstop Bryson Stott and pinch hitter Kody Clemens stepped up when the Phillies needed them the most, as Stott's solo home run in the seventh and Clemens' clutch solo bomb in the bottom of the ninth helped Philadelphia tie the game twice and send the contest into extra innings.
With runners on first and second and a 1-2 count in the bottom of the tenth, Harper lined one in the center field off Nats reliever Kyle Finnegan.
Bryce Harper and the Phillies have been brilliant so far in 2024
The Phillies are on a hot winning streak in the 2024 MLB season. They started the season slowly, but this roster doesn't know when to quit a game and always finds a way to claw back into important games.
With Saturday night's win, Philadelphia are now 33-14 this season and sits atop the NL East standings with a healthy .702 win percentage.
The entire roster has contributed immensely with their talents in all aspects of the games so far this season.
First baseman Bryce Harper is a fan favorite in Citizens Bank Park, and the entire fan club of Philadelphia looks up to him in times of need. He answered their calls and delivered once again on Saturday night, as he is now batting with an average of .263, with ten home runs, 33 RBIs, and .874 OPS in 2024.
