The St. Louis Cardinals became the latest ballclub to unveil their City Connect jerseys for the 2024 season, and they did it in some style.
In a video posted on Instagram, several Cardinals players wore their City Connect jerseys while rapper and St. Louis native Nelly added some hip-hop flair by narrating throughout the video as his famous song "Country Grammar" played in the background.
In the video, you can observe Cardinals stars like Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, Lars Nootbaar, Jordan Walker, and others vibing to hip-hop music while the video gives a taste of their city's history, culture, and traditions.
The Cards incorporated their rich history and musical culture into their city-connected jerseys with detailed side arm patches that feature the historic symbols of the Gateway Arch and the Fleur-de-lis. Their City Connects will read "The Lou" in the center to pay tribute to the city of St. Louis.
Rapper Metro Boomin led the charge to headline St. Loiuis' City Connect jersey launch party at Busch Stadium ahead of their Monday night's clash against the Baltimore Orioles. He was also provided with a custom City Connect with Young Metro written on the back as Busch Stadium celebrated Metro Boomin bobblehead night.
The Cards will feature the iconic bird on their bats and the City Connect jerseys while using their familiar nickname 'The Lou' on the front and players' names and jersey numbers on the back.
The jersey has river pinstripes to pay tribute to being situated at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The jerseys also feature 1882, which was the year when the ballclub came into existence in the MLB.
Cardinals plan to feature their City Connect jerseys in 12 home games this season
The St. Louis Cardinals are set to rock their City Connect jerseys for the first time on Friday to kick off the three-game home series against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium.
The team also announced that they plan on donning the City Connect jerseys for at least 12 home games in the 2024 campaign. This is only the second time in the franchise's rich 142-year history that they will be wearing red jerseys in a big league season.
The last time St. Louis wore red jerseys was in 1999 for a promotional event in the month of August.
