On Wednesday, Nolan Arenado and the St. Louis Cardinals were tasked with closing up the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The series was tied at one game apiece, meaning this one was for all the marbles.
Unfortunately, the Cards would have trouble keeping Pittsburgh's bats quiet. The Buccos got out to a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning, and during the seventh inning, Arenado needed some fuel.
He casually pulled out a cup full of sunflower seeds from his back pocket and shoveled a good amount into his mouth. He then proceeded to shove the cup back into his back pocket and got right back into his defensive position.
Watch the clip below:
Baseball and sunflower seeds go hand in hand. While the league has made changes to speed up the game, baseball can still be long and slow at times, and players need something to distract them.
Could Cardinals slugger Nolan Arenado get hot after his latest success against Paul Skenes?
Nolan Arenado is used to being one of the top third basemen in the league, both defensively and offensively. However, he did not look like himself on the plate during the first half of the season.
He alongside Paul Goldschmidt has taken a step back. However, Arenado hit a home run off one of the most exciting pitchers in Major League Baseball this year, Paul Skenes.
He blasted a solo home run off Skenes in the fifth inning, giving him his 10th of the year. He was monumental in the Cards' 2-1 win over the Pirates on Tuesday.
The blast could bring the veteran some confidence at the plate. All it takes is just a little success for somebody to get going in this league, and it would not be surprising if Arenado starts going nuclear.
