And just like that, the LA Dodgers have added their 8th World Series title after defeating the New York Yankees 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday. Thanks to a star-studded cast led by Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts, the club was simply too much for the Yankees to overcome.
On Friday, it was all celebrations in the City of Los Angeles as the Dodgers' championship parade made its way past thousands of fans. The streets of L.A. were flooded with supporters, who came out to celebrate the 2024 World Series champions.
The Dodgers were considered the title favorites after adding the likes of Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto last offseason. However, fans still celebrated as if they were the underdogs all year long. While some championship parades are exciting, it seemed like the one on Friday took it up another notch.
Part of the reason behind the massive championship parade turnout could have been because the team was unable to celebrate their last title in 2020 due to the pandemic. The excitement on Friday has been nearly five years in the making.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the city expected up to 100,000 fans to be present for the parade. To help maintain the safety of those in attendance, it was reported that additional law enforcement officers are on hand.
The LA Dodgers are primed to potentially host more World Series parades in the near future
As we have seen with the Texas Rangers this season, winning a World Series title does not guarantee that the champion will be able to defend it the following year. However, LA is set up to contend for the World Series moving forward.
The club has most of its key pieces locked for the next few years, and thanks to Shohei Ohtani's deferred contract, could still look to add more important pieces this offseason. Given the dominance that the team showed throughout the postseason, parades like the one on Friday could be a common occurrence for the team and its fans in the years to come.
