Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts paid a visit to the Los Angeles Rams training camp on Monday at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Betts, who has been out since June 17, is nursing his fractured left hand, which he sustained against the Kansas City Royals.
At the training camp, Betts interacted with Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who welcomed him. He also met with another wide receiver, Puka Nacua. The Rams social media uploaded glimpse of Betts' visit to the Rams' training camp. Here's the video:
Both LA based franchises are keen on doing big this season. While the Dodgers have the best odds to win the World Series this year, the Rams could make a strong case to reach the postseason.
Dodgers receive encouraging update on Mookie Betts recovery
After being hit on the left hand by a 97.3-mph heater from Dan Altavilla in the seventh inning, Mookie Betts continued to make strides on his fractured left hand.
The shortstop is reportedly close to live batting practice. He has started to swing his bat and has also hit some balls off the tee.
“I’ve gotten to swing a little bit, hitting the little rubber balls and then eventually move into some tennis balls, then baseballs and whatnot,” Betts told reporter Kirsten Watson.
“So just want to make sure every swing I take, the hand is okay. There’s no vibration or anything that’s gonna slow the healing process down.”
According to manager Dave Roberts, Mookie Betts' left hand continues to get “stronger.” but reserved his comments on being asked about the timeline of his return.
Initially, it was expected that the leadoff hitter would return in 6–8 weeks. However, the recovery started slow but has picked up pace of late. In his absence, the Dodgers have done well (19-15 since June 16). His early return would boost the franchise's second-half campaign.
Moreover, before getting injured, Betts batted .304 with 10 homers and 40 RBI in 72 games.
