Freddie Freeman is the hottest slugger at the plate this World Series. Coming into Monday's game with homers in Game 1 and Game 2 already, the LA Dodgers first baseman carried the momentum and once again hit for the yard, driving in two runs in the first inning of Game 3 at Yankee Stadium.
The 1-2 pitch from Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt was dispatched for a 355-foot home run in right field. This was his third straight homer in this World Series and fifth straight dating back to the home runs he struck in the final two games in the 2021 World Series for the Atlanta Braves.
With this, Freeman has raised his odds significantly for the World Series MVP should the Dodgers come out triumphing in the best of seven series.
Freddie Freeman's homers are coming at a time when the club needs them the most. After a lackluster NLDS and NLCS showing, Freeman, who is playing through an ankle injury, showed up big time in Game 1. With the Yankees leading 3-2 going into the 10th inning, Freeman struck a walk-off grand slam off Nestor Cortes to win the game 6-3.
“It felt like nothing, just kind of floating,” Freeman said after hitting the grand slam. "Those are the kind of things, when you’re 5 years old with your two older brothers and you’re playing wiffle ball in the backyard, those are the scenarios you dream about — two outs, bases loaded in a World Series game," he added. "For it to actually happen and get a home run and walk it off to give us a 1-0 lead, that’s as good as it gets right there.”
In Game 2, he hit a solo home run in the third inning off Carlos Rodon.
Freddie Freeman's latest home run ties two World Series records
With his third straight homer in the first three games of this World Series, the first baseman joins Hank Bauer (1958) and Barry Bonds (2002) to accomplish such a feat in the biggest of the stages.
Moreover, Freddie Freeman going the distance in his fifth straight World Series game has him tied with former Astros' George Springer for the all-time record.
