The game was tied 3-3 in the eighth inning when Mitchell delivered a go-ahead hit, leading the Brewers to victory. Facing Mets reliever Phil Maton, Mitchell launched a 390-foot home run with an exit velocity of 107.3 mph, breaking the tie and driving in two runs.

Both the Brewers and the Mets started Wednesday's game by scoring one run each in the first inning. The Mets eventually took the lead by scoring two runs in the second inning. The Brewers responded with a run in the fifth inning on Blake Perkins’ sacrifice fly.
In the eighth inning, Jackson Chourio tied the game with a 398-foot homer, shortly before Garrett Mitchell hit the winning home run.

Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell entered Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning as a pinch runner, replacing Gary Sanchez and then remained in the game as the designated hitter. Discussing his game-winning hit, Mitchell said (via ESPN):
"I was just looking for something out over the plate and I recognized curveball early… I've been getting ready (to hit) since about the fourth inning, so was just trying to stay active and ready to go."
New York Mets pitcher Phil Maton threw a first-pitch 76.8 mph curveball that Garrett Mitchell homered on a line drive to center field, allowing Willy Adames to score. Throughout the game, Mitchell recorded one run, one hit in one at-bat and two RBIs.
So far in the 2024 season, Garrett Mitchell is hitting .255 with 8 home runs, 21 RBIs, 25 walks, and a .812 OPS. The Milwaukee Brewers will face the New York Mets again on Thursday at American Family Field in the finale of their three-game series.
