The 2024 ALCS MVP, Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton, continued his home run spree, hitting in his fourth straight postseason game. The Yankees power hitter took Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty deep in the left field stands for a two-run homer that gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
With the Yankees trailing 1-0 heading into the sixth, Stanton powered through Flaherty's pitch for his 17th home run in October and his first in the Fall Classic. His moonshot silenced the home crowd at the Dodger Stadium.
Coming into this game, Stanton previously hit three home runs in three straight ALCS games against the Cleveland Guardians. Moreover, this was his sixth postseason home run this season with him hitting one against the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS and four coming in the ALCS series against the Guardians.
If he's able to keep up his form, the World Series isn't that far for the Yankees.
Giancarlo Stanton relishes playing in hometown
The Yankees slugger was raised in the Tujunga area of Los Angeles, 15 miles from Dodger Stadium. There was a time when he used to scrounge for tickets to see his favorite ball players Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Mike Piazza in action.
On the eve of the World Series Game 1, Giancarlo Stanton relishes the enjoyment of coming back to the ballpark for the most important games of his career.
“My favorite moments here were probably the little things, coming early to batting practice and hearing the sound of the bat in a relatively empty stadium,” Stanton said. “I was in the outfield trying to catch home run balls. I guess I learned my big league depth perception here, I would say.”
His connections here in LA got his phone buzzing after the Dodgers advanced past Mets in ALCS, Stanton said.
“It’s hard not to reminisce around the ballpark,” Stanton said. “But it’s all business. You check in and out, enjoy it, and understand we’ve got work to do.”
Giancarlo Stanton has played 25 games in Dodger Stadium hitting .309 with nine doubles, 10 homers and 26 RBIs.
