WATCH: Harrison Bader slams his first homer as a Mets star

The New York Mets' latest addition, Harrison Bader, had his first Big Apple moment at Citi Field on Wednesday afternoon. Bader hit his first home run of the season against the Pittsburgh Pirates as the Mets completed the sweep with a 9-1 win. Starling Marte also hit a homer in the victory, his 150th career home run.

The Mets were on their way to sweeping the Pirates with a 6-1 score in the bottom of the eighth inning. Bader hit a two-run moon shot against the Pirates’ Bailey Falter in the sixth inning to widen the lead.

Bader signed a $10.5 million contract for the 2024 season with the Mets in January. Bader is having a great season with three RBIs and 14 hits in 14 games, with a slash line of .292/.333/.313 and a .646 OPS.

He had an excellent outing in spring training, with two home runs and two RBIs, with a batting average of .258 in 13 games, hinting at a great season ahead with his new team.

The Mets are exceeding expectations this season

The New York Mets were the center of many discussions about having a slow offseason, despite having the financial backing of Mets owner Steve Cohen. Their new head of baseball operations, David Stearns, and manager Carlos Mendoza have different plans in mind, to reduce the payroll and have a younger core.

Their NL East division has the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, who qualified for the playoffs last year and are currently leading the division. The Mets are just behind them in third place with nine wins in 17 matchups.

The Mets had a great start on Wednesday, with Luis Severino holding the Pirates for six innings while conceding only one run. In return, the Mets’ offense hammered Bailey Falter and his fellow pitchers for nine runs in the bottom of eight innings.

The Mets are now on a four-game winning streak after sweeping the Pirates today.
