Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ made baseball history on Tuesday by hitting an impressive home run off a blazing 103.2 mph fastball from All-Star closer Mason Miller. The home run in the ninth inning is the fastest pitch ever hit for a home run in the Statcast era, which began in 2015. However, Happ’s solo home run was not enough to help the Cubs, who fell 4-3 to the Oakland Athletics.

Happ’s amazing show of talent was a highlight in a game filled with dramatic moments. The Cubs, trailing by two runs, saw their hopes up again following Happ’s record-setting drive. The home run, launched into left field, was only enough to narrow the deficit by one run, and despite the notable feat, it was not enough to take the game to extra innings.
Oakland Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers posts two home runs of his own
Catcher Shea Langeliers also made headlines with his great performance after hitting two home runs of his own – including a towering solo shot that went over the bleachers at Wrigley Field.
Langeliers, who has now hit 28 home runs this season, cemented his status as one of the league’s premier sluggers. His second home run, a 418-foot blast, scored the last run of the night for the Athletics.
The A’s have already been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention but got a much-needed win after a rough stretch. Meanwhile, the Cubs now trail the New York Mets for the last Wild Card spot by six games, with only 11 more to go.
