Starter Jack Flaherty led the LA Dodgers' pitching staff to a commanding 9-0 win in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets. Flaherty denied the red-hot New York Mets of any runs in a masterful showing.

The 28-year-old Burbank, California native, who attended Harvard-Westlake School in LA, got emotional after his stellar performance for the home squad. In a wholesome moment postgame, Jack Flaherty embraced his mother in the stands after his brilliant outing.

Watch it below:

Flaherty put together a gem against the surging Mets. In his seven-inning appearance, he only surrendered two hits and two walks while striking out six Mets batters and not allowing a single run. Daniel Hudson and Ben Casparius then took over in relief of Flaherty and held the fort for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers pitching crew made history by tying the 1966 Baltimore Orioles for the longest scoreless streak in a single postseason, going 33 innings without surrendering a run.

In the same game, the team also shattered the National League record for the same achievement by surpassing the 29-inning scoreless streak of the 1905 New York Giants during that year's World Series.

The last time that the Dodgers pitching crew surrendered a run this postseason was in Game 3 of the NLDS against the San Diego Padres when Walker Buehler surrendered a two-run home run to Fernando Tatis Jr.

Looking at Jack Flaherty's MLB career

Playing in his eighth major league season, Jack Flaherty has seen his fair share of ups and downs. Flaherty was selected as the 34th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.

The California native spent three years in the organization's minor league system before getting the call-up on Sept. 1, 2017. He played the next six seasons with the team. He ended his stint with the Cards having tallied a record of 41-31 with a 3.58 RBI.

At the 2023 trade deadline, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for exchange of three prospects. He finished out the year at Camden Yards with a 1-3 record and a 6.75 ERA.

In the offseason ahead of the 2024 campaign, he signed with the Detroit Tigers and had a 7-5 record with a 2.95 ERA before being shipped to his hometown team, the Dodgers, at this year's trade deadline. Flaherty made 10 starts in the regular season with a 6-2 record with a 3.58 ERA.
